Case Study: Allergic Reactions from Molds and Mildews vary among people
You got the smell few days back – the typical musty odor. You thought that you were getting too much panicky because nobody in the home was experiencing any type of allergies. However, you still inspected the places around for any sign of molds and mildews but you did not find anything objectionable at that time; hence you did not think of applying thorough mold cleaning process at that time.
But you got shocked to see that your mom started sneezing excessively as soon as she entered your room! You were sure that you did not have mold but now you want to give it a second thought; actually you should.
The musty odor is a basic indication of black mold infection. You may ask that why none from your family experienced any health problem then? The reason is perhaps you are not allergic to the mold that has colonized in your home, but your mom is. Hence she showed allergic reactions.
Allergic responses may vary among people
It depends on a lot of factors how an individual would react when exposed to molds and mildews. Your immune system plays a vital role here. When we inhale aerosolized mold spores or fragments of hyphal parts, our immune system releases antibodies to fight the intruders! These antibodies chemically react with the antigens, i.e., the allergens to produce certain compounds. These compounds define how our body would react to the allergens.
The other factors that control allergic reaction are:
- Amount of allergens present in the air
- Type of molds
- Type of toxic materials they produce
- The degree of exposure
It has been reported that some people are more likely to suffer from mold allergies whereas others are less. Those who are sensitive should be cautious and avoid direct or indirect contact to molds as much as possible. If black molds grow indoor; kill them with natural cleaning products. Mold killer removes mold and blocks them permanently.
