We have a "greenhouse" type window above and to the back of our kitchen sink. This window bows out like a bay window…great for retrieving sunlight for growing herbs, etc.
Have noticed around the inside edges a nasty black colored area that goes along the entire window where I think moisture must be getting trapped from possible poor insulation, etc. It seems to be spreading and I’ve tried bleach and everything to rid of it…but nothing is working!
I’m not very familiar with this black, spore like looking gunk that is taking over my window. It is also troubling, although the window bows out to the exterior…to have this anywhere near my kitchen and food surfaces!
Any tips? (and fast!!!!)
Thanks…and again, I’ve tried everything from bleach to Fantastic to Kaboom and just about all the other cleaners on the market.
Bleach & other products will kill the mold/mildew but it will not get rid of all the staining or prevent the problem from returning ( I have a back bedroom window with the same problem) so….
…after you kill the mold/mildew repaint the area….go to your local hardware store and ask for a mold/mildew retardent that you can put in your paint as a preventative…they have such stuff…they also have paint with the agent already in it. results are good..it’ll last about 5-8 years for ya, which is about the time you’ll be ready to repaint…Good Luck!

My first thought was bleach. I had a similar problem in
the past and used Clorox bleach about 1/4 cup in a cup of water. Used a tooth brush — working it into all the cracks and corners. Rinse and do again. Use a hair dryer to completely dry the area. Wait a few days and see if it comes back. If it does, then you may have a problem with the outside of your window…an area where moisture keeps coming through. You can increase the amount of Clorox in water to really attack that mold.References :
